Timeleft vs Bumble For Friends: Which One Gets You Out?

Timeleft vs Bumble For Friends compared: a booked table against swiping and chatting. Cost, what each actually produces, and which suits a short stay.

Published by KF.Social. Our comparisons explain where our own service fits; they are not independent reviews.

These two are often listed side by side and they are not really the same kind of thing. Timeleft books you a seat at a dinner. Bumble For Friends introduces you to one person at a time and leaves the evening to the two of you. The choice comes down to which half of the problem you actually have: finding people, or turning people into a plan. Every fact below is quoted from their own live pages, read on 21 September 2026.

How Timeleft works

You answer some questions, pick a city and a day, and Timeleft matches you into a small dinner, described on its homepage as "five new faces over good food", which is six at the table. It mixes people on age range, personality and language preferences, and it handles the venue and the group. Its own summary is "No bios. No swiping. No planning." It says it reveals the location and your group just before, and its FAQ says anyone 18 and over can use it, with events run in the local language and English.

It uses a subscription, in one, three or six month periods, with the options varying by region and shown during sign-up rather than published on the site. Food and drinks are paid at the venue. Beyond dinners it also runs drinks and runs, and it lists 52 countries and more than 200 cities.

How Bumble For Friends works

Bumble turned its BFF mode into a standalone app, Bumble For Friends, for platonic connections only. The mechanic is the familiar one, in Bumble's own words: "You swipe through profiles and when two people swipe right on each other, you can start chatting! Either person can send the first message."

You can download it free from the App Store or Google Play, with optional paid extras. Bumble's pricing article is not readable without a browser session, so no figure for the paid tier is quoted here rather than guessed at.

It has a group planning tool, and it is more capable than people expect. Any member with two or more matches can start a plan for a group meetup, choosing from coffee, a bite to eat, something outdoors, live music or a show, or a games night, or writing their own, then inviting at least two connections into a shared chat. Bumble also notes on the same page that the app "may not be currently available in your region", which is worth checking before you rely on it.

The real difference: who does the arranging

This is the whole comparison. Timeleft gives you an evening and no choice of company. Bumble For Friends gives you a choice of company and no evening.

With a booked dinner, the date, the table and the restaurant already exist, and your only job is to turn up. You do not get to pick who is there, and some nights the table will not be your people.

With a swipe-and-chat app you pick precisely who you talk to, and you can build a real one-to-one friendship rather than a single evening, which is something a matched dinner does not give you. The cost is that every step after the match is yours: suggesting something, choosing a place, agreeing a night, and doing it again when it falls through. The documented complaint about this whole category is chats that never turn into plans, and it is not a criticism of the app so much as a description of what the app leaves to you.

So the honest test is your own energy. If the hard part for you is meeting anybody at all, Bumble For Friends has the bigger pool and costs nothing to try. If the hard part is converting a friendly chat into an actual evening, a booked table removes exactly that step.

If you are only somewhere for a few weeks

Length of stay tilts this more than anything else. Swiping, matching and chatting is a process measured in weeks, and it pays off for someone who lives where they are swiping. On a stay of two or three weeks you can burn most of it in the chat stage and leave having met nobody.

A booked dinner inverts that. It is a worse way to build a lasting friendship and a much faster way to have an actual evening, which on a short stay is usually the thing you are short of.

Where KF.Social fits

KF.Social sits on the booked-table side, narrowed to one city. London only, Thursdays at 7pm London time; check the current dates and area before booking. 15 pounds for the seat, published before you pay, which covers the matching and not the meal; you pay the restaurant for your own food and drink.

A table is six people, and a seventh booking is not turned away because we open another table of six. The restaurant lands about six hours before, the table about an hour before with the group chat. Booking closes six hours before. Cancel 72 hours or more ahead and the 15 pounds returns to your card, and inside 72 hours not at all. If the table does not run you are refunded in full, whatever the clock says. Booking gates on two things only: being 18 or over, and having paid. Everybody at the table booked and paid for their own seat.

Where the other two beat us. Bumble For Friends is free to download and we are not, it lets you choose the individual person where we do not, and it can produce an ongoing friendship rather than one evening. Timeleft runs in more than 200 cities, and offers drinks and runs, where we do dinner in one city. If you want to pick who you meet, or you are not in London, we are the wrong answer.

Common Questions

Is Bumble For Friends better than Timeleft for making friends?
They solve different halves of the problem. Bumble For Friends is better if you want to choose who you meet and build a friendship that continues past one evening. Timeleft is better if the part you find hard is turning a friendly chat into an actual night out, because the dinner is already booked and your only job is to turn up.
Is Bumble For Friends free?
Bumble says you can download the app for free from the App Store or Google Play, with optional paid extras. No figure is quoted here for the paid tier because Bumble's pricing article was not readable when this page was written, and inventing one would be worse than leaving it out.
Can you organise a group on Bumble For Friends?
Yes. Bumble says any member with two or more matches can create a plan for a group meetup, picking an activity such as coffee, a bite to eat, something outdoors, live music or a games night, then inviting at least two connections into a shared chat where everyone can see the history.
Which is better if I am only in a city for a few weeks?
A booked dinner, in most cases. Swiping, matching and then agreeing a night is a process measured in weeks and it rewards people who live where they are swiping. On a two or three week stay it is easy to spend the whole stay in the chat stage, whereas a booked table produces an evening on a date you can see in advance.
Do I get to choose who I am sitting with at a Timeleft dinner?
No. Timeleft matches the table on age range, personality and language preferences and describes itself as "No bios. No swiping. No planning." That is the trade: you give up the choice of company and you get an evening that already exists.
Is there something like this that charges per night rather than monthly?
KF.Social charges 15 pounds a seat for a single dinner in London, with food and drink paid at the restaurant, so nothing recurs if you only want one night. It runs in one city only, which is a real limitation if you are anywhere other than London.
