Write decisions down, not just discussions Most meetings produce discussions but no documented decisions. After every meeting where something is decided, send a brief follow-up with three things: what was decided, who owns each action item, and the deadline. This takes two minutes and prevents the situation where everyone leaves the meeting with a different understanding of what was agreed. Written decisions also create accountability that verbal agreements never do.

IKEA's founder used to take sugar packets from restaurants Ingvar Kamprad, who built IKEA into a global furniture empire worth billions, was famously frugal his entire life. He drove an old Volvo, flew economy class, and was known to pocket sugar packets and salt from restaurants. He insisted this wasn't cheapness but principle - he believed leaders who lived lavishly couldn't credibly ask their teams to find cost efficiencies. The culture of cost-consciousness he embedded into IKEA is a core reason for the company's success.
