Handling Unknown Friend Requests

If somebody you don't recognize sends you a friend request, we recommend clicking on their profile to check for more information and details that might help inform who this user is and why they are sending you a friend request. A good way to spot spam accounts, bots, trolls and online stalker accounts is to click on their profile to first check their details and look for things like:

Profile Picture

A profile picture with a clear view of their face.

If you suspect the picture is fake, this is a good indicator that you should ignore the request and block the user.

Mutual Friends

If they have many friends in common with you, ask your mutual friends about this person and who they are.

Personal Details

Details like where they work, where they've studied, their age, their location, their family members, their interests and relationships all can help give you a better picture of who this person is, how they might know you and what their intentions are.

A profile with a lot of these details empty might be a sign that the profile is suspicious.

If, after going through their profile, you still do not recognize this user, cannot guess their intentions and are uncomfortable accepting their friend request, you can reject their friend request or block them or both.

Dealing with Persistent Users

If a user is repeatedly trying to contact you and is making you uncomfortable, we recommend blocking the user using our "Block" feature. You can do this by:

  1. Visiting the Friend Requests page.
  2. Clicking the Block button next to the person's request

Rejecting friend requests from people you don't recognize and aren't comfortable engaging with is usually a good idea. This helps ensure your privacy, keep your account safe and improves your experience on our platform.
