A shared activity can take the pressure off having to think of something to say. Richmond has options for making art, playing volleyball or learning a dance step alongside other people. Check each venue carefully: some activities described as Richmond-area options are in neighbouring Henrico.

Make something at a Second Friday class

The Visual Arts Center of Richmond’s Second Fridays programme offers a different short art class each month, with two evening time slots. The current page lists classes at $15 each. Registration opens on the Monday before the event; every participant registers individually, and places can be limited.

VisArts is in Richmond’s Fan District at 1812 West Main Street. Check the month’s medium, age guidance, available seats and cancellation details before choosing a class. A hands-on format gives you something to share with the people at your table.

Play a seasonal volleyball session in Henrico

Richmond Volleyball Club’s Sunday Let’s Play is for adults who want to play without signing up for a season team or roster. Players form teams from whoever attends, and RVC says membership is not required. The current listing gives a 2:30–5 p.m. session, costs $10 per date or $80 for a punch card, and shows autumn dates through October 18, 2026.

The venue, RVC Byrdhill at 2921 Byrdhill Road, is in Henrico outside Richmond city. Check the page for the next session and any seasonal changes before travelling; this is a walk-in sports format, not a guaranteed team placement.

Try a partner-free ballroom social

USA Dance Richmond Chapter #6006 runs monthly ballroom socials with a beginner-friendly lesson and open dancing. The chapter says all skill levels are welcome and no partner or reservation is needed. Its first-Saturday dance is at The Dance Space in Richmond; its third-Saturday event is at Deep Run Park & Recreation Center in Henrico. Adult non-member admission is listed as $8, with venue-specific payment rules.

The Dance Space’s current events page lists the next first-Saturday dance for October 3, 2026. Check both pages for the latest time, lesson, fee and payment method; Deep Run does not accept cash.

Check the whole journey

VisArts and The Dance Space are in Richmond. RVC Byrdhill and Deep Run are in Henrico, a separate county. Use GRTC’s route map and trip-planning tools with the exact address and finish time, and plan how you will get home.
