A good social routine can start with a shared focus: a song to rehearse, a scene to invent or a project taking shape in a studio. Nashville’s Metro Parks programmes offer several ways to spend time alongside the same people, whether you are already local or still learning your way around.
Metro Parks Music’s Hartman Park Band practises on Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The department describes it as a group that meets to socialise and play music; rehearsals are open to newcomers and visitors. Its repertoire includes rock and roll, blues, country and some jazz.
The current page does not set out an instrument list, experience requirement or fee. Contact Metro Parks Music at 615-862-8440 before your first visit to ask what to bring and whether the rehearsal suits you. The band meets at Hartman Community Center, so check the venue and travel details with the department.
02Try an adult improv playshop
Metro Parks Theater’s Improv Playshop is a free, ongoing class for adults 18 and older at Centennial Performing Arts Studios. The department says people can drop in without advance registration or prior experience. Each week uses a different focus, with participants working together on improv scenes.
The page has a schedule for September 2026; check it for the latest session time and any October dates before setting out. The studio is at 211 27th Avenue North. If you would rather watch before joining in, contact the Theater division to ask about the format.
03Choose a visual-arts class
Metro Parks Visual Arts offers adult painting and pottery classes at Centennial Art Center, Bellevue Regional Community Center and Old Hickory Regional Community Center. Fall 2026 classes began on September 28, and the department publishes a schedule and class descriptions for each location.
Check the current listing for open places, fees, skill level, materials and the address before registering. Davidson County residents had the first registration day for the fall session, with out-of-county registration opening the following day. Classes run in multi-week sessions, giving you the chance to return to the studio and see the same classmates.
04Make the venue part of the plan
Hartman Community Center, Centennial Performing Arts Studios and the visual-arts studios are separate destinations. Use WeGo’s trip planner with the exact address and finish time, and check the return journey before choosing an evening activity.
