General Online Safety

In a digital age where more and more activities are becoming dependent on internet connectivity, like ordering and paying for things, more malicious parties are trying to invade our privacy and steal sensitive information.

Beyond our platform, online safety and privacy is important whenever you connect to and use the internet. As such, always practice and be constantly aware of good general safety and privacy habits. We recommend:

Practicing safe surfing

This includes:

  • Keeping your computer operating system and miscellaneous software updated.
  • Reading and understanding the section of privacy policy that describes what information is being captured and how it's being managed. These policies also usually describe what security measures are in place to ensure your information is safe.
  • Using and maintaining an up-to-date and reputable internet browser and antivirus software.
  • Always making sure the website you are logging into is indeed KF.Social's authentic website. Check the URL and domain name for spelling mistakes and typos. Hovering your mouse over a link before clicking it to see the URL and checking it is also advised. This helps protect against phishing.
  • Always making sure the website you are logging into is a secure website. The first step is to check for a 'padlock' sign to the left of the address bar.
    • The next step is to ensure the certificate associated with the website is valid by clicking on the lock symbol to look for a secure connection.
  • Not visiting websites with illegal or questionable content.
  • Not visiting websites that are warned against by your antivirus software.

Practicing good privacy and computer-usage habits

Some examples of these are:

  • Not forgetting to log out of your KF.Social account after you've finished using it on any computer other than your own personal one.
  • Not connecting to insecure or suspicious public wifi networks in cafés, restaurants, parks and other public places. Instead, use options like mobile data, personal or trusted wifi networks and other secure internet options.
  • Being aware of and careful with any password saving options in the browser you're using and also any other password managing software you might be using.
    • See our "What should I know about passwords ?" section for more information on passwords.
  • Being aware of shoulder surfing. Shoulder surfing is an in-real-life privacy violation where individuals spy on your computer, phone or device to obtain sensitive information, usually by walking past you or lingering behind you.
    • This usually occurs in public places like internet cafes, restaurants, parks, waiting areas or in crowded places like packed queues, trains, buses, etc. Situational awareness is key to preventing shoulder surfing.
  • Never underestimating the value of information. Malicious parties sometimes do not care to directly steal funds, as any information almost always has some value.
