How to make the most of the window
The newbie phase is the best return on effort you will ever get. Do not waste it chasing complexity. The basics, done consistently, capture almost all of it.
- Keep it simple and consistent. A basic program you actually follow beats a perfect one you abandon. Show up, train each muscle a couple of times a week, and let the novelty of training do its work.
- Progressively overload and log it. Add a little weight, a rep, or a set over time, and write it down. In this phase you can often beat last session for weeks, so track it and use that.
- Eat enough protein. Around 1.6 grams per kilogram of body weight per day supplies the materials. Hit it from whatever sources suit you, such as tofu, tempeh, lentils, beans, dairy, eggs, or meat.
- Sleep and recover. The rebuild happens between sessions. Do not blunt fast gains with short nights and constant fatigue.
- Learn good technique now. Grooving solid form while the loads are light builds a base that keeps you progressing and injury-free once the weights get heavy.
