A lot of people believe high intensity interval training (HIIT) means jumping, sprinting, and slamming their joints into the floor. It does not. Intensity is about how hard your heart, lungs, and muscles work. Impact is about the force your joints absorb every time you land. Low impact intervals are not a watered-down version for the fragile. They are simply a smarter default for a lot of people, and the obvious choice for some.

- Heavier people, for whom landing forces are higher and joint-sparing tools make hard training accessible.
- Older adults building fitness who want intensity without the injury risk of jumping and sprinting.
- Anyone returning from injury who wants to push their heart hard while the joint recovers.
- Most people, honestly, because there is rarely a good reason to pay a joint cost you can avoid while getting the same fitness benefit.
Impact is not what makes intervals work. Effort is. Keep the effort high, drop the impact, and you get the cardio benefit with far less wear on your joints. For most people, that is simply the better way to do HIIT.
