Baltimore has ways to turn an existing interest into a regular point of contact: share a book, walk while you talk, or make something alongside other adults. These are public library and city-supported programmes, not KF.Social events. Each organizer controls its calendar, location, capacity and access, so use the current listing before making plans.
01Bring your own book to a Pratt Library group
The Enoch Pratt Free Library’s adult BYOB (Bring Your Own Book) Club meets on the first Wednesday of the month at Southeast Anchor. There is no assigned reading: bring a book, blog or article you have enjoyed and share what you would recommend. The library’s current listing shows future dates into 2027 and says registration is not required. Confirm the next meeting time and room on the event page.
If you prefer to hear about a book before choosing one, look at the library’s other branch book discussions. The format, time and reading list vary, and some events offer both in-person and virtual attendance. Check the specific event for its current details rather than relying on an old listing.
02Walk and talk with Rambling Readers
Rambling Readers meets at Central Library on the third Thursday of the month for a one-hour walk around Mount Vernon Place. Participants share whatever they have been reading or listening to, with stops to take turns speaking. The current calendar lists October, November and December 2026 dates; the event page says optional registration is available and provides contact details for questions.
Check the start point, weather, route and pace before setting out. If you would rather stay indoors, the library lists other adult book groups at neighborhood branches. Either way, a shared topic can make an introduction feel more natural than starting with small talk alone.
03Make something at a library craft session
At the Hampden Branch, Maker Mondays is a monthly adult arts-and-crafts session with a different project each time. The current listing includes an October 19, 2026 meeting and later dates, and says participants can use provided supplies or bring an ongoing project. Check the calendar for the next date, material details and whether a space is available.
Making something side by side gives conversation a starting point. You can ask how someone chose a material or share what you are working on. If Hampden is inconvenient, browse the Pratt calendar by branch and activity type for another current creative session.
04Help with a Baltimore cleanup
Baltimore City’s Charm City Cleanup information describes volunteer service days and community cleanups that residents can organize with city support. Look for current sign-up instructions and the location before attending; event dates and support arrangements can vary by neighborhood. Treat any cleanup as a commitment to the site and group, and check what equipment or preparation is needed.
05Choose a location you can revisit
Pratt Library events happen at particular branches across Baltimore, while a walking group follows its own route. Check the address, start and end time, transit or parking choices, and the journey home. The city boundary does not mean every branch or event is convenient from every neighborhood, and these options do not automatically extend into surrounding counties.
Try to enjoy the activity for itself. Learn a name, ask when people meet next and come back if it feels right. Familiarity has room to grow when you see the same people more than once.
